Design: Thonet (1932)
 
A classic tubular steel chair is the streamlined but imposing S 411 armchair, for which a footstool is also available (Model 411 H, designed in the 1990s). This model is also available as a two-seater (Model S 411 C, designed 1956). The elegant, classic design provides a high level of comfort on a singular floating steel frame. Originating in 1932 as an in-house design at Thonet, the development of the S 411 was inspired by the tubular steel furniture created by Bauhaus designers Mart Stam, Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe, all of whose cantilevered chairs are still produced by Thonet today.

63 x 79 cm. The frame of the S 411 is chrome-plated, and the interior-spring cushions can be upholstered in either leather or fabric. The elegant armchair is equally at home in living spaces – as a comfortable easy chair and recliner – or as an elegant furnishing for public reception areas and lobbies. All models in the S 411 family harmonize particularly well with the B 9 and B 10 tables by Marcel Breuer, as well as with the other furniture in Thonet’s tubular steel collection.
