5 Living Room Hacks Using Touch Tape

Living in a house with a family of kids and teens running around in every which way has its challenges. If you’re not a Tetris wizard, its time you take a moment and address what in the living area you can and cannot live without and what needs to have a designated home. The easiest and fastest way to start placing loose items where they belong is simple with cable ties that use hook-and-loop fasteners as part of their design.

What Are Loop Tape Cable Ties?

Patented in the mid-1950’s loop fasteners have been used in almost every industry from ocean exploration to outer space. Hook-and-loop tape is the generic term for what is known by the public as VELCRO® or the zipperless-zipper. Used in the computer tech industry for cable management solutions wire wraps made with industrial strength hook-and-loop tape is the best way to keep every inch of the family room tidy and clean.

Organize The Living Room With Hook Fasteners

In the living area, you can use various types of wire ties for more than just organizing your entertainment center’s wires. Try out a few of these DIY living room hacks using hook fastener Velcro cable wraps, found in most local hardware stores and office supply shops.

  1. Clear Off Coffee Table & End Tables – Take everything off the coffee table. You may have a pile of magazines, books, random purses, car keys, remote controls, etc. etc., littering the all the table surfaces, making your living room a living nightmare. Start with a clean surface and allow for only 1-3 items total, such as a set of coasters and a small basket of pens and paper. The rest of the items that once lived on the table can now find a new home without looking like a mess.
  2. Hide Remote Controls – Never lose your TV remote again. Take a piece of adhesive-backed loop tape and stick it to the side of your table or inside the door of the entertainment cabinet and make a rule that once the entertainment center is turned off the remotes are hung up on their designated piece of hook fastener. Sticky hook fasteners are intended for lightweight items such as a spare set of keys, an umbrella, or dog leash. The adhesive glue on different brands of hook-and-loop tape may differ and could require stronger glue such as that offered from a hot glue gun.
  3. Bundle Entertainment Cables & Chargers – Cellphone chargers, excess entertainment wires, and electrical cables are easier to deal with when they are labeled before they’re put away in a plastic storage container. There are cable ties that include a space for you to label and personalize your cables so everyone in the family knows what each wire is for.
  4. Organize The Living Room Closet – Use a cable wrap to wrap up your vacuum plug quickly. With a small wire tie, use it similar to a key chain and hang small cleaning supplies straight to the vacuum such as the feather duster, small handled broom, and the dustbin. This way you quickly have cleaning tools all in one place for fewer excuses from teens who say chores are too difficult.
  1. Support Growing Houseplants – The most significant aspect of using hook fasteners is because they can be reused for many years and are moisture resistant. For those with an indoor green thumb, using a few small cable ties to hold up and train plants to climb is made safe and secure with loop tape. You won’t ever need to worry about string or zip ties pinching the branches of your houseplant and are allowed the ability to readjust the diameter and pressure to the stem of the plants.

Once you try out a handful of these ideas using cable ties, you’ll start to realize that every room in your house would benefit from loop tape wire wraps.
